Ways to Make the Holidays Special Despite Moving

The holiday season is not normally for moving. Unfortunately, sometimes it has to happen and there is no choice in the matter, such as when your boss transfers you and your new boss is requiring that you start your job immediately following Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s. When this happens, it causes the move to be that much more stressful. You’re worried about how you’re going to pull together the holiday for the kids and still get everything moved in time for you to get to your job on the Monday following the holiday.

That’s where A.C. White Relocations comes in; we are a full-service mover that will take care of all the ground work (packing, moving and even unpacking!) for you so that you can focus on the holiday season with your family. Here are a few tips to help you balance the move with celebrating the holiday:

new home this Christmas

1. Play Holiday Music

If you decide to pack instead of letting A.C. White do it for you, make sure everyone is involved. Do it as a family, and make sure there is some holiday music playing. Sing along, if you can.

2. Put the Tree Up First

If you’re moving during Christmas, make sure that as soon as you arrive at your new home, you put the tree up – as a family. Don’t forget to stick all the presents underneath it as well soon thereafter. This will help keep the holiday spirit alive, especially when this is the first thing you do in the new house.

3. Dine Out This Year

When all of your holiday dishes are packed, and there are boxes filling up your entire house, the last thing you want is to host a holiday dinner. If a big feast isn’t feasible right now, it does not mean that you can’t still get together with your family and friends. Rather than having a meal at your home, schedule to have your feast at a local restaurant. Remember, it isn’t the food that makes the occasion special, it’s the people!

4. Find Festivities on the Way

If you’re going to be on the road on the actual holiday, consider doing some research beforehand to find hotels and businesses that will be hosting holiday events and dinners. Sure, this may not be the same as home, but a joyously-decorated hotel will be much more celebratory than an emotionless one.

5. Take the Time to Explore

When you arrive at your new home, you will be in a new place. It will be unfamiliar, and it could come off as a little bit depressing. Don’t let it. This is the perfect opportunity to see what your new hometown has to offer and to meet people that you may not any other time of year. Most cities will host concerts, light displays and other special events during the holidays that make for perfect family activities.
