Mild weather, a cool music scene, competitive pro sports teams, and sophisticated urban culture ascend as some of the advantages of living in Atlanta. If you need more reasons to move there, how about a hot jobs market and an inexpensive quality of life?
Jobs
Growth in Atlanta jobs is better than the national average, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, with an increase of 2 percent over the year as of August 2018. This compares to a national rate of 1.7 percent. No less than 15 Fortune 500 companies make their home in the area including such well-known employers as The Home Depot, United Parcel Service, Coca-Cola, and Delta Airlines.
Forbes ranks the Atlanta metro area as number nine in the county and number one in the southeast for business and careers. High-demand jobs in the area, according to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, run the gamut from truck driving, construction, and health sciences to data analysis, accounting, and marketing.
Living
Despite a hot housing market, your chances of affording a place to live are greater in Atlanta than almost any large metropolitan area. According to Forbes, the average home price for the area runs $234,219, which is less than the national average of $283,900. In fact, out of 300 housing markets, the business magazine ranks the city as the ninth best place to invest in housing.
There’s no shortage of things to do once you’re done working and want to get out of the house. The green you see is not just from the dollars of a burgeoning economy but from the many trees planted throughout the area. This “City in the Forest” is also traversed by the Chattahoochee River if you prefer your outdoor recreation on the forest.
The storied local past comes to life at the Atlanta History Center, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, and the Jimmy Carter Library & Museum. Take the kids to get in touch with nature at the Atlanta Botanical Garden or the Georgia Aquarium. More adult diversions can come out of the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre or The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse.
